Instructions how to build the medieval crane.

  • Content of the construction kit for the crane

  • The tools I used

Cutterknife, Scissors, Superglue, Woodglue, Brush, Acrylcolor

  • Step 1

Carefully release both cylindric axle-parts from the pieces for the framework and put them aside for now.

  • Step 2

You can remove the remainings of the connections between the parts with a cutterknife (or sandpaper). It's better to paint all parts before building the crane because it's easier to reach every region of the model.

I painted afterwards because it's easier for you to identify the unpainted elements on the pictures. Painting the pieces is very easy with the good old drybrush technic.

For now I put these framework pieces aside.

  • Step 3

Release the parts for the running wheel and the hook from the frame.

  • Step 4

Glue both parts of the hook together and put it aside for now.

  • Step 5

The footboards for the runnig wheel come in for parts, where some of the boards are linked together. If you bend those parts carefully (The engraved side is the outer side), the links between the boards don't break and you can glue all those footboards into their position in only four steps. Those four board parts meet between the double spokes of the wheel.

  • Step 6

After glueing the second Wheel on top of the bended footboards you can push the axle beam into the center hole of the wheel until the mark vanishes in the center hole.

  • Step 7

The center beam comes out at the oppsite side and can be fixed with one of those two discs with the special center hole (a combination of square and circle).

The square hole for is for the beam and the round one for one of those cylindric pieces we lay aside in step 1.

  • Step 8

On the side where the beam has a longer overlap we build the spool for the rope. Glue the four discs (shown on the picture) into their position on the axle beam, beginnig from left to right.

Now you can glue the last of those little cylindric axle pieces from step 1 into the hole of the last disc of the spool.

  • The only things that are missing now are the ropes.

  • Step 9

Thread a suitable string into the hole of the axle beam and fix it with a knot or glue.

Afterward you can wind some of the string onto the spool.

  • Step 10

Thread the other end of the string into the hook and afterwards into the crane arm (coming from the bottom side).

It's helpful to tip the end of the string into some superglue. After it's dry you don't need a needle.

  • Step 11

Fix two similar strings to both parts of the framework and make a loop at each loose end. With these loops the crane arm is held in position

Now you can put the string with the hook over the crane arm (there is a guiding slot for the string).

  • And here a picture of the painted crane.

  • Have fun with constructing and painting
